Meet Boots
Boots is ready for her forever home!
At almost 20 lbs, this little girl may have short legs, but DON'T LET THEM FOOL YOU — SHE CAN JUMP! 😂 Her breed mix is anyone's guess, but we see some Beagle/hound, Chihuahua, Shepherd and maybe Corgi or Dachshund in there. Whatever she is, she's 100% adorable.
And Boots is a LOVER. Once she feels safe, she wants to be ON her person. Lap cuddles, belly rubs, kisses, couch snuggles — Boots wants it all. She is happiest when she's beside her people and will happily follow you around like a little shadow.
Boots can be nervous and unsure when meeting new people or experiencing new things. When she first arrived at her current foster home, she barked, hid beside the bathtub and needed time to decompress. Her foster gave her that time, and once she realized she was safe, she came around beautifully. She has been glued to her foster ever since.
She may be a little protective of her person, particularly around other dogs, but the initial growling and teeth-showing toward her foster's dog disappeared once she settled in. She and foster sibling Marty now play together at least once or twice a day, and she has been great with other dogs she's met on walks and in the yard. She may still get jealous when another dog gets attention and needs continued guidance around sharing her person and toys.
Boots has made huge progress with potty training. She hasn't had an accident in the house in FOUR DAYS! 🎉 She is now giving signals when she needs to go out and sleeping through the night without accidents. She gets it — her family will just need to keep the routine going.
She's a smart girl with basic manners. She knows her name, sits, responds to "no" and "stop," waits for treats and toys, and is very gentle taking treats. She's working on jumping up, leash manners and learning that the couch is by invitation only.
And this girl LOVES to play fetch. She brings the toy back and drops it for you like a pro. She's athletic and energetic and would happily be your walking or hiking buddy, but she's equally happy to curl up on your lap afterward.
Boots recently went for a nail trim and out on some errands and handled it well. She previously got carsick, but did fine on these shorter rides, so her foster suspects that may have been related to nerves and uncertainty.
She sleeps in her crate at night, has no destructive behaviour and is learning that her crate is a safe place. She can be vocal when startled by noises or people outside but settles fairly quickly.
Boots recently tested negative for heartworm and received her preventative on October 2. She is a little overweight at almost 20 lbs, but her vet was not concerned.
❤️ What Boots needs
Boots needs patience, consistency and effort.
She may not show you her true personality during the first meeting. She needs time to decompress and build trust, and an introduction away from her foster home would be best.
Give this girl a little time and you'll discover a funny, affectionate, playful, cuddly little shadow who thinks her person is the greatest human on earth.
Boots is ready. Is her forever family out there? ❤️
